Wedding Host / DJ
Wedding Host / DJ
Sam Lurie began his DJ career at age 15. Star-struck by the sight of another entertainer at Summer camp dance, Sam asked if he could watch him work from ‘inside the booth’. Fascinated by this DJ, Sam immediately asked for a job, and just a few months later began working as an assistant DJ doing Bar/Bat-Mitzvah’s on a weekly basis. As his experience grew, he became a lead DJ on events such as school dances, sweet-16s, birthday parties, and graduations. As Sam became busier, he started picking up work in bars, nightclubs, and corporate events, eventually becoming a lead DJ/MC for bar/bat mitzvah’s, and weddings. For the past ~15 years, Sam has focused solely on weddings, rarely DJ’ing in any other capacity.
Now, roughly 25 years since he began his entertainment career, Sam’s experience as a mobile DJ, position him to offer both thoughtful insight and seasoned experience when entertaining TSG weddings. If you chat with him, don’t be surprised to hear him say something like: “I fully understand, no one is coming to your wedding to see me.” Sam’s style is entirely based on the customization of each couple’s unique wishes and requests, meeting and exceeding those needs, while delivering a professional, highly detail oriented, fun and classy experience.
Before each event, Sam prides himself on precision planning. He believes the more work he puts in with brides and grooms prior to each wedding, the smoother and more successful their wedding will be. During the event, Sam is a well-spoken, polished MC, but chooses not to speak much beyond the coordination and direction he receives from each couple he works with. Sam will tell you, “If I can play your requests, take some guest’s requests, and play what I think will work best from reading the crowd live, the dance floor should be packed and I won’t say anything on the mic at all”. Sam knows that mixing the right music, in the right order, keeps the dance floors full and the energy level
While Sam has DJ’d literally 1000’s of events, these days he plays ~50 weddings per/year, and has been requested for events over 2 years in advance. He has performed throughout all 6 New England states, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Israel, and even China. Sam has been featured in DJ Times Magazine, and a guest speaker at The DJ Expo in Atlantic City, NJ. While he has checked off several “bucket-list” items throughout his DJ career, Sam firmly believes the single best achievement is when a bride or groom tell him that he helped create and execute the best night of their lives.
Sam is an Eagle Scout and a graduate of Fitchburg State University with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems. By day, he’s an IT Manager, and ISC2 Certified Information Systems Security Professional. By night and on the weekends, he’s in the DJ booth mixing songs you forgot you loved and filling dance floors! He’d love to chat with you about vintage Magic cards, unique cars (of which he has several), or just about anything automotive related. On the rare occasion he has a weekend off, you can find him at a car show, track day, rally, or Cannonballing across the United States. Sam and his wife Elissa, and their son Solomon live in Billerica with their dog @Turbo.TheGolden.
